Community

For me, community comes into being when I share a purpose with others. When we gather around a purpose, it gives us strength and belonging, and gives us the capacity to act together. Community is reciprocal at heart for me: when we genuinely participate in it, it sustains us - with purpose, belonging, strength, and resources to keep participating - and does not deplete the people who sustain it. As such, I prefer serving the Commons rather than serving capital.

At the same time, as an ML researcher, I am part of a system from which I materially and professionally benefit significantly - a system I am deeply critical of. I do not have a clean resolution to that contradiction. I am trying to live within that tension by creating spaces for community, engaging in two-way dialogue, and using some of my access to make academic pathways more accessible to others.

Community Projects
